John proudly served in the United States Army as a Corporal from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War era. His commitment to service did not end with his military career, as he went on to dedicate much of his life to serving the Hillsboro community in numerous leadership roles. Over the years, he served as a County Board Member for 12 years, Mayor of Hillsboro from 2011 to 2015, Assistant Fire Chief following 29 years as a volunteer firefighter, and Police Chief from 1984 to 1995.

A lifelong public servant, John continues to remain active in the community today, carrying forward a legacy of leadership, dedication, and service. His commitment to Hillsboro has also continued through his family, with his son, Don, now serving as Mayor of Hillsboro. The community proudly recognizes and thanks John for his military service and his many decades of commitment to the people of Hillsboro.
