From 1982 to 1985, Chellis Shawn Altenberger, proudly served in the United States Navy as an MME3, or Machinist’s Mate Third Class, during the Cold War era. In this role, he helped maintain and operate critical mechanical systems that supported the readiness and strength of the Navy during a tense period in world history. His service required technical skill, dedication, and a strong commitment to supporting fellow sailors and national defense. Though his time in service occurred during peacetime, his contributions played an important role in maintaining military preparedness and protecting American interests around the world. The Hillsboro community proudly recognizes and thanks him for his service.
