Bernard proudly served his country in the United States Army and later retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with the Army National Guard. During the Korean War, he served from 1952 to 1953, demonstrating dedication, leadership, and a strong commitment to protecting the nation during a pivotal time in history. A graduate of Hillsboro schools and former Mayor, he remained deeply connected to the community throughout his life, with immediate family still residing in the Hillsboro area today.

Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of service and leadership continues to be remembered with pride and gratitude. A loved one fittingly shared the words, “Lest We Forget,” honoring both his military service and the lasting impact he made on his community and country.
